European Experts Update Rules for Heart Pacing and Resync Therapy
NetherlandsWednesday, January 22, 2025
What did they find? Well, some recommendations didn't sit well with the Dutch, especially if they had already published their own guidelines. For instance, there's a new guideline about using magnetic resonance imaging on patients with heart implants. The Dutch had their own rules for that. Same goes for implanting those fancy defibrillator devices in people with heart issues. The Dutch say these devices should have resync therapy too, no defibrillator needed.
Another big change is the emphasis on shared decision-making. Doctors and patients should work together to decide the best treatment. This is a big deal and is discussed in more detail in this document.
These guidelines are mainly for healthcare pros who deal with patients needing heart pacing. They've been approved by the Dutch specialist associations and patient groups.
