Exploring Identity and Language in Antalya: The Case of Cretan Immigrants

In today's interconnected world, cultures mix and blend more than ever. This diversity brings its own set of challenges. The United Nations has noted that understanding and protecting these cultural differences can foster harmony and tolerance. This study dives into the identity, language, and communication experiences of Cretans living in Antalya, a city known for its rich multicultural mix. The aim? To understand how they navigate their unique culture within the dominant society and how this affects social peace.

Researchers conducted interviews and observations with Cretan immigrants in Antalya from May to July 2024. They wanted to know how these immigrants felt about their identity and language in their new home. Were there tensions or harmony? The findings were then analyzed to understand these complex dynamics. This research could be a stepping stone for future work aiming to prevent identity and cultural conflicts sparked by migration.
