Exploring Italy's Hidden Gems: A Local's Guide to Fall and Winter Travel
Italy, San LupoFriday, November 15, 2024
One of Maria's favorite spots is Benevento, a city known for its UNESCO Heritage church and Roman theater. It's an hour away from the Amalfi Coast, which can be quite sleepy during the off-season. Benevento is a wonderful base for exploring nearby villages. Cusano Mutri, for instance, is famous for its porcini mushrooms and has a month-long festival dedicated to them.
History buffs will enjoy Sant'Agata, about an hour west of Benevento. This town has 20 churches from different periods, each with its own unique architecture and art. And let's not forget the delicious nfrennula, a special pretzel-style pastry found here.
For those with a sweet tooth, San Marco is a must-visit. It's known for its artisanal Torrone, a Christmas favorite. Maria admits that even locals head to San Marco for this treat.
So, why explore the beaten path when you can experience the real Italy in these charming towns?
