Eye Care Hack: A Smart Tool to Spot Kids’ Near‑Sight Problems Early

IndiaWednesday, April 15, 2026
A new project is building a computer program that can spot how quickly kids’ vision might worsen. The goal is to help parents and teachers catch myopia before it gets serious. The program uses artificial intelligence, which means the computer learns from many examples of eye measurements and lifestyle habits. Because India’s kids live in very different places, from big cities to small villages, the researchers gathered data that reflects this variety.
They plan to test the tool on children between six and eighteen years old, in both urban and rural settings. If the program works well, schools could run quick screenings and flag kids who need special eye care. The study also hopes to show that more screen time and less outdoor play are linked to faster vision decline. By sharing the data openly, other researchers can build better prediction models and design targeted prevention programs.
