Fake Georgia Voter Video Linked to Russia
Georgia, USASaturday, November 2, 2024
Georgia's Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, quickly labeled the video as "obviously fake, " suggesting it was the work of Russian trolls aiming to cause confusion before the election. Intelligence officials corroborated this, stating that the video was part of Russia's broader effort to cast doubt on the election's integrity and deepen divisions among Americans.
The joint statement from the FBI, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence cautioned that Russia could create and release more content intending to undermine election trust. The original video post was removed, but copies were still being shared with false fraud claims.
The style and distribution method of the video matched those of Storm-1516, also known as CopyCop, a known Russian disinformation network. Additionally, the agencies linked another fake video to Russia, this time falsely accusing a Democratic ticket individual of taking a bribe.
