Fans Grab More Than Autographs at Altoona Sci‑Fi Bash

The 16th spring edition of the local sci‑fi convention is set to bring a mix of beloved actors and lively activities to Altoona. The event, organized by Casey Bassett, will host about 17 guests from popular films such as “Empire Records, ” “The 100, ” “Starship Troopers” and the “Twilight” series. This year, fans will meet three members of the Cullen family—Jackson Rathbone as Jasper, Peter Facinelli as Carlisle, and Kellan Lutz as Emmett—alongside actress Ashley Greene. Guests will sign autographs, pose for selfies and join panel discussions in the main room. The schedule also features a costume contest on Saturday afternoon, a charity auction, a late‑night screening of “Twilight: New Moon, ” and an after‑party at the Holiday Bowl.

Bassett expects more than 10, 000 people to attend based on Facebook responses, noting that Altoona can handle a crowd similar to Pittsburgh’s size. The convention center will host around 250 vendors, including game sellers and indie creators who tailor their products to the fandoms present. The event aims to give attendees a break from daily routines, offering a space where like‑minded fans can connect. Tickets are available online at discounted rates or at the door, with pricing ranging from $10 for children to $45 for a three‑day adult pass.
