Farmers Need Fair Pay to Save Our Food
Food companies love buzzwords. They say coffee is regenerative, cocoa is responsibly sourced, and packaging is recyclable. The words sound good but hide a problem.
Climate crisis hurts farmers who grow our food. Many lose land to heat and rain changes. They struggle because they cannot afford new tools.
Studies show money matters most for green practices. When farmers have steady income, they can invest in soil and water care. Without pay, quick fixes harm the land.
Fairtrade offers a model. It sets a minimum price and extra funds for projects farmers choose. These projects include water wells, shade trees, and better farming tools.
The food industry must act. Paying farmers more gives them stability. It also makes supply chains safer and the planet healthier.
Change needs many parts: laws, companies, shoppers, NGOs. Together they can give farmers a fair seat at the table.
