The Federal Reserve wrapped up its rate cuts for 2024 with a final adjustment at its meeting on Wednesday. Interestingly, they scaled back their expectations for rate reductions in 2025 by two, as inflation remains persistent and the economy stays robust. Just a couple of years ago, the situation was quite different. In 2022, inflation was soaring at more than double the current rate, and many experts feared that the Fed's aggressive interest rate hikes could lead to economic trouble, possibly even a recession.

But things didn't play out that way. The job market slowed down but remained stable, and inflation significantly cooled off, allowing the Fed to start reducing interest rates in September. Now, the Fed is navigating a new, uncertain phase. They're aiming for a smooth economic landing, but the path ahead is less clear than before.
