Federal Hill Seeks Stronger Crime Solutions After Recent Arrest
Federal Hill is calling for stronger actions against violent crime following the arrest of a suspect in a recent murder case. The victim, Charles Brothers, was shot in an elementary school parking lot during his birthday celebration, leaving the community shaken and concerned.
Community Leaders Speak Out
Jen Covino, the public safety leader for the Federal Hill Neighborhood Association, expressed gratitude to the police for their swift response. However, she emphasized the need for more comprehensive measures.
"The area has seen a significant increase in violent crimes. Homicides are up by 22%, common assaults by 104%, and aggravated assaults by 38% compared to city averages."
Covino highlighted that this violence is deterring families from moving to Baltimore. She noted that when parents search online, they often come across news about the murder at Federal Prep, which influences their decision to move elsewhere. She urged the city to adopt successful crime-fighting strategies from other areas and implement them in Federal Hill.
Suspect in Custody
The suspect, Davahughn Johnson, is currently in custody without bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for January 29. The community hopes that this arrest will spark more action and lead to safer streets.
