Fentanyl in Blood: Trends and Redistribution in Harris and Orange Counties
Texas, USAFriday, November 29, 2024
This study looked at fentanyl blood ratios from 748 cases in Harris County, Texas, and Orange County, California, from January 2009 to June 2022. Because the data wasn't normally distributed, a Kruskal-Wallis test was used. The findings showed significant differences in central/peripheral ratios between the two counties, before and after the epidemic, and when fentanyl was used medically versus not.
Researchers also checked factors like age, gender, and polydrug use, but no clear patterns emerged. The study suggests that the rise in ratios could be linked to increased illicit fentanyl use, but more research is needed to pinpoint the exact cause.
