Fighting Frost: ODOT's Battle Against Winter Weather

Winter has hit Northeast Ohio hard, turning roads into slippery obstacles. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is working tirelessly, with crews on 12-hour shifts, to clear the ice and snow. Even so, keeping up with the heavy snowfall is tough. ODOT's Amanda McFarland explained that despite complaints, crews were out in full force. “When snow falls this fast, it's hard to keep roads completely clear, ” she said.

Cold snaps make things even trickier. When temperatures hit 25°F (around -4°C), salt isn't as effective. So, ODOT uses extra materials like calcium chloride to boost its efforts. The ODOT teams are determined to make roads as safe as possible. But for everyone else, the best advice is to stay indoors if you can. This helps crews work without extra traffic getting in their way. Snowstorms are persistent, so avoid driving unless necessary. If you must go out, drive carefully and be patient. ODOT is doing its best to keep us safe, so let's help them out by staying off the roads as much as possible.
