Fire Danger Rises Again in LA: What You Need to Know

Get ready, Los Angeles! The Santa Ana winds are back, and they're bringing a big risk of wildfires. From Monday noon to Tuesday morning, Ventura and Los Angeles counties are under a red flag warning. This warning is serious—it's only issued once every four years, and it's happened five times in the past three months! The winds will be strong, with gusts up to 70 mph on the coasts and 100 mph in the mountains. The humidity will drop to single digits, making it super dry. This combo of winds, low humidity, and dry plants means any fire that starts will spread fast.

The danger zone stretches from Ventura County to Malibu and across the San Fernando Valley to Big Pines and Pomona. The National Weather Service is urging locals to be prepared. Make an evacuation plan, pack emergency stuff, charge your devices, fill up your gas tanks, and secure outdoor items. Two big fires, the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, are still burning. The Palisades Fire has burned 23, 713 acres and destroyed over 12, 000 structures. The Eaton Fire has burned 14, 021 acres and destroyed over 9, 000 structures. Together, they've killed at least 27 people and caused mass evacuations. Governor Gavin Newsom is sending more firefighters and equipment to help.
