Flipping the Script: How Trump Won Again
West Palm Beach, Florida, USAThursday, November 7, 2024
Trump's simple question to voters— "Are you better off now than four years ago? "—resonated strongly. Over half of Americans felt the country was on the wrong track, with high levels of dissatisfaction. Voters were annoyed by Democratic dismissal of their feelings and voted accordingly, shifting support away from urban and suburban areas and boosting Trump's rural support. Harris' campaign promises about "joy" and "turning the page" didn’t convince voters who felt let down by her party’s leadership.
Trump capitalized on issues like inflation, the border, and cultural controversies where Americans felt Democrats had failed. His message also drew support from minority groups. For instance, 62% of Latinos in Michigan voted for him, and he won the support of one in four black male voters in Georgia. Additionally, exit polls showed support from various minority communities for Trump's promises of economic recovery, national strength, and cultural empowerment.
Trump's coalition expanded, reaching groups that felt alienated by the Biden-Harris administration's policies. This included young men, culturally conservative groups, and even some Jewish voters. Many communities votes shifted to Trump, believing his promise to fix what Harris had not.
