Flood Alert Hits Ten Ohio Counties Through Sunday Night

Ohio, USAMonday, July 6, 2026
The National Weather Service has warned that heavy rain could cause flooding in ten counties across Northeast and north‑central Ohio. The alert, valid until 10 p. m. Sunday, covers Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull and Wayne. Rainfall forecasts show that the region may receive more water than usual, leading to runoff that can overflow rivers, creeks and low‑lying areas. Storms are expected to move east‑southeast across the state, with some producing intense rainfall. Thunderstorms and showers are likely to continue through Monday, especially in the afternoon and evening. Localized heavy rain could spark flash floods on Sunday.
Forecasters warn that nearly all of northern Ohio faces the risk of excessive rain by Sunday, with the potential for significant flash flooding. Urban streets, roads and small watercourses are especially vulnerable. On Sunday afternoon, numerous storms will push east‑southeast over the region. When thunderstorms occur, rainfall can exceed two inches per hour, quickly turning localized areas into flood zones if the storm lingers. The Flood Watch updates an earlier Sunday forecast that called for showers and possible thunderstorms across Greater Cleveland. Rain is expected to start in the morning, with a higher chance of precipitation between 2 p. m. and 5 p. m. , at about an eighty‑percent probability. In addition to heavy rain, there is a small risk of damaging winds accompanying the storms.
