Four Israeli Soldiers Freed, Ceasefire Holds
Gaza City, PalestineSaturday, January 25, 2025
Soon after the release, Israel announced that civilians in Gaza wouldn't be allowed to return home as planned. They said this was due to the absence of an Israeli civilian named Arbel Yehud among the released prisoners. Israel claims Yehud is a civilian and should have been freed.
A senior source in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) told the media that Yehud is being held as a soldier, not a civilian. However, there's no evidence to support this claim. Another PIJ source confirmed Yehud is alive.
The Israeli military won't allow Gazan civilians to enter the north until Yehud is found or her release process starts. The released soldiers have been reunited with their families, who expressed joy and relief.
Preparations were underway at Ofer prison in the West Bank for the release of around 200 Palestinian prisoners as part of the ceasefire deal. Hamas expects Israel to follow through on this part of the agreement.
