France's Big Plan for a New Super Ship

France is making a significant strategic move with the announcement of a new, massive aircraft carrier. This ship, known as the PANG (New Generation Aircraft Carrier), is set to replace the current Charles de Gaulle, which will retire by 2038.

• Size: 310 meters long and 85 meters wide (approximately three football fields in length).
• Capacity: Will carry around 30 fighter jets and have a crew of 2,000 people.
• Cost: Estimated at €10.25 billion.

The announcement was made by President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE is a significant market for French military equipment and is strategically located near the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for oil and gas shipments.

Macron stated, "In times of aggression, we must be strong to be feared. I have decided to equip France with a new aircraft carrier." The new ship is expected to be operational by 2038.

France's Unique Position

France is the only country in the European Union with nuclear weapons and the only one, besides the United States, to operate a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. Other countries with aircraft carriers include the UK, Italy, Russia, and Turkey.

Military Significance

Army Minister Catherine Vautrin described the new carrier as a "centerpiece" of the French military, emphasizing its role in projecting power from the seas.
