Get ready for a chill! Parts of the U. S. are about to face a big drop in temperatures. Places like Washington, D. C. , are taking precautions, like moving events indoors. The cold will hit the Rockies and Northern Plains first. Think super cold wind chills, maybe even below minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Bundle up, because frostbite isn't fun! As the cold air moves, the central and eastern U. S. will still feel the chill, with highs in the teens and 20s. That's not all, folks. Texas to the Carolinas might get a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Yikes! Louisiana has already declared an emergency. Why the sudden freeze? It's because of something called the polar vortex. Usually, it stays near the North Pole, but it's moving south again. The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast can expect snow, too. Roads could get icy, and airports might face issues. Baltimore had to cancel their annual Martin Luther King Jr. parade due to the weather. Connecticut has activated their cold weather protocol to help those in need.
