Gainesville’s music scene deserves more attention
Gainesville, Florida, USAWednesday, June 3, 2026
Local acts like Fie Scoobie and The Nancys already have loyal followings among students. Scoobie even shouted out his hometown in his music, and The Nancys’ merch is all over campus. These artists prove that Gainesville’s music scene isn’t just alive—it’s thriving. By giving them a bigger platform, UF wouldn’t just support local musicians; it would strengthen its own identity. Students would feel more connected to the performers, and the city’s musical legacy would get the recognition it deserves.
Not everyone will love every local artist. Preferences vary—some love rap, others rock, and some just want big-name acts. But that’s okay. The point isn’t to please everyone; it’s to build something meaningful. When a Gainesville musician steps on stage at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for the first time, it becomes more than just a concert. It becomes part of the school’s story.
