Gamecocks Bring Joy to Young Fans at Prisma Health Children's Hospital
South Carolina, Columbia, USAFriday, September 20, 2024
Gunnar Yocum, the long snapper for the Gamecocks, is the driving force behind this special visit. He shares his personal story about battling cancer as a teenager and how it took a toll on him and his family. However, he also shares a message of hope and resilience. "My mom always told me that God puts the toughest challenges on the strongest people because those are the ones who can overcome it," he says.
For the kids at the hospital, these few hours with the players are a chance to forget about their medical struggles and simply be kids. Tamisha McFadden, the mother of a child in the hospital, agrees. "It means everything; he's back to his normal self now," she says.
The players spend the morning playing games, giving gifts, and sharing quality time with the young fans. It's a feeling of joy and connection that impacts not just the kids but the players as well. As Isaiah McClary, a defensive back for the Gamecocks, puts it, "It means a lot giving back to these kids making sure they can still have fun, still have a good time – it's those moments."
