Gaza Hospital Hit: Israel's Bold Move Against Hamas
GazaTuesday, May 13, 2025
The U. S. had hopes for upcoming negotiations in Qatar, with President Donald Trump and his envoy, Steve Witkoff, involved. However, Israel's move to target Sinwar complicates these talks. Sinwar is seen as a key figure in Hamas, and his removal could impact any potential agreements. He is known for his hardline stance and military experience, having commanded the Khan Younis Brigade until 2016. Both Sinwar brothers are believed to have planned the October 7 terror attack on Israel.
Since the war began, Sinwar has been in hiding, along with other senior Hamas leaders. In December 2023, the IDF released a video showing Sinwar in a tunnel in Gaza. In February 2024, they claimed to have found his office in western Khan Younis. The targeting of Sinwar suggests Israel sees him as a major obstacle in ending the conflict. Former U. S. Ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro, stated that Sinwar's removal could pave the way for the release of all hostages and a post-war future for Gaza without Hamas.
