Georgia's Stormy Sunday: What to Expect and How to Stay Safe

Hey, Georgia! Are you ready for some wild weather this Sunday? The National Weather Service has called off a Tornado Watch that was supposed to last until 9 a. m. , but they've issued a new one for 20 counties, including Bryan and Bulloch, until 1 p. m. Meteorologist Ashley Kramlich warns that a strong storm line will sweep through between 3 a. m. and 8 a. m. Sunday. Expect some nasty wind gusts and maybe even brief tornadoes. This is the first time since Hurricane Helene in September that Metro Atlanta is facing a severe storm system. October was pretty dry, but 2024 is still the 15th wettest year on record in north Georgia. Janasthisa DeJesus from Buckhead isn't thrilled about the forecast. "I'd rather have sunny days, " she said, standing at a gas station on Peachtree Road.

The storm could bring flash flooding, downed trees, and power lines. So, it's a good idea to stay indoors and avoid driving if you can. Chris Harper, a mail delivery guy, is planning to stay dry on his day off. "I'm good, " he said. Emmanuel Park agrees, "Just staying off the road. It's the weekend, just stay in.
