In cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, the number of recovered ghost guns has significantly declined due to local lawsuits against manufacturers. Adam Garber, executive director of CeaseFirePA in Philadelphia, where a mass shooting was carried out with an AR-15-style ghost gun, attributes this drop to new regulations. Baltimore has also seen a decrease in ghost gun recoveries last year for the first time since 2019. Police Commissioner Richard Worley notes that limiting illegal guns is crucial for reducing violence. However, industry and gun rights groups argue that the ATF overreached with its regulation, with more than two dozen Republican-leaning states backing these arguments before the Supreme Court. Lawrence Keane from the National Shooting Sports Foundation believes enforcing existing laws is a better approach to addressing gun violence. The Supreme Court has previously upheld the regulation by a 5-4 vote, but conservative justices have been skeptical of federal agency powers.
