Girl soccer and track teams shine in weekend tournaments
Girls Soccer Dominance in Genoa-Kingston
The Genoa-Kingston girls soccer team left opponents scoreless across three games, securing tournament hardware in commanding fashion. Maddie Swanson delivered an impenetrable performance in goal, while Olivia Leonforte struck the lone goal in a hard-fought championship match against Rochelle.
The semifinal saw Ayva Hernandez and Xareni Jimarez each finding the back of the net, with Hernandez also contributing a decisive corner kick to edge Hinckley-Big Rock in the opener. Their defensive resilience and offensive precision earned three players—Dulce Ibarra, Bella Ortegel, and Hernandez—spots on the all-tournament squad.
Track & Field Standouts: DeKalb and Genoa-Kingston Impress
At the Jill Holmes Invitational, Me’She Eubanks (DeKalb) stole the show with dual victories in the long jump and triple jump, propelling her team to the overall team title. DeKalb’s sprint and relay teams also racked up podium finishes, proving depth across events.
