Global Response to U. S. Strikes on Iran: A Mixed Bag
Middle EastSunday, June 22, 2025
Europe took a more measured approach. The United Kingdom's Prime Minister Keir Starmer supported the strikes but urged a return to diplomacy. France expressed concern but clarified that it was not involved in the strikes. Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz called for immediate negotiations between Iran, Israel, and the United States.
The United Nations and Russia also weighed in. U. N. Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the use of force, warning of catastrophic consequences. The International Atomic Energy Agency planned an emergency meeting to assess the situation. Russia strongly condemned the strikes, labeling them as irresponsible and a violation of international law.
President Trump framed the strikes as a success, claiming that Iran's nuclear capacity had been destroyed. He warned that future attacks would be even more severe if Iran did not pursue peace. This bold move by the U. S. has certainly stirred the pot, with reactions ranging from praise to condemnation.
