Celiac disease is a common immune system issue in the gut. It pops up in kids and shows up with special antibodies that don't like something called transglutaminase 2.

        First things first, these antibodies are like the body's alarm system going off.   Kids often have celiac disease right in front of us and we miss it. If we miss it, we can't deal with it.

        Doctors know that right now blood tests are the way to figure out if a kid has celiac. But there are problems with those tests. Not everyone agrees on how to do the tests, which ones are best, and the tests don't always see celiac disease.

        It is difficult to think about that people trust these tests and yet they miss patients. They miss important details and sometimes misinterpret the results. Getting the kid to stop eating gluten seems easy, but the tests don't always detect that properly.

        It is an epidemic there is clearly overdiagnosis with celiac disease.

        Misleading test results can lead patients and their families down the wrong path. How can we be sure if a child has celiac disease if the test results are unclear?

        Doctors need to be more accurate and efficient in using serological tests. But that is a tough job. They have to be mindful of the gluten-free diets that patients follow.

        There is almost a stigma with following a gluten-free diet.  Why? Because kids can't have it if they don't have celiac disease. celiac disease is very common. But sometimes doctors can't figure out why the kid is sick in the first place.

        Parents are being given labels and answers when there is a health problem with their child.

        One last thing about gluten-free diets. Doctors need to be sure that the kid is actually following the diet. That's crucial in most cases. Sometimes kids are misdiagnosed? And it is ok. No one wants their kid to be misdiagnosed. Yet, we all have a vague idea about how serious Celiac  is

        Since these tests have a lot of problems, doctors and researchers should get together to make them better. So doctors can see if the symptoms match celiac disease. Maybe a community will develop younger and more in tune with symptoms
