Golf Course Battle: Nonprofit Wins in Court

In Denver, a nonprofit called Sisters of Color United for Education has emerged victorious from a long dispute. The story began when they rented the rundown clubhouse at Park Hill Golf Course and spent around $196,000 to fix it up. However, another group had already booked the place, leading to a disagreement with the owners who wanted half of the time for themselves. This feud ended up in court, where the judge ruled in favor of Sisters of Color United for Education.

The owners were ordered to pay over $250,000 to cover the repair costs and other expenses. Adrienna Corrales Lujan, the nonprofit's director, sees this as a testament to standing firm. She plans to use the money to expand their educational programs. It’s been quite a battle, with both sides trying to gain an advantage in court since 2019, and voters rejected a plan to change the golf course’s purpose last year.
