Governor Burgum's Double Standard: A Look at Campaign Rhetoric
North Dakota, USASunday, November 3, 2024
Burgum criticized Biden for responding to the joke, saying that Puerto Ricans are good people and that the only garbage he sees is Trump's supporters. He believed Biden's comments were unacceptable, stating that they were un-American and contrary to Biden's own actions.
However, Burgum's stance seemed to change when confronted with Trump's previous remarks. At a rally in Wisconsin, Trump had called the people around Vice President Kamala Harris "scum" and "garbage. " Burgum dismissed this, saying that voters won't be swayed by such comments in the last week of the election. He argued that name-calling is common in American politics and that voters will make their decision based on their own conditions.
