Graffiti Gets a Big‑Time Home in Suburban Station
Suburban Station, Philadelphia, USAThursday, July 9, 2026
The theme for this year is “USA 250, ” celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Artists painted the Founding Fathers in new ways, like Benjamin Franklin with a crown of thorns and the words “In God We Lust. ” Another piece, “Love is Not Dead, ” shows angry figures holding anarchist flags and a match between traffic cones. The artist said he wants to mix rage with love in the city.
The event is not just a display. Visitors can add their own drawings, spray paint or stickers to the walls. Families with kids especially enjoy this hands‑on part of the show.
Some people who grew up tagging trains in Philly now see their work as art. A veteran wallwriter, known as Lewis Pittman, says he is glad to see graffiti accepted today. He remembers nights on buses and trains that were later erased by the police.
After the current show ends, Step Outside plans a new exhibit in August called “Then and Now. ” It will trace how street art has changed over the years. The organizers want to honor the original artists who started it all.
The exhibition runs through the summer, with closing nights on July 10 and 11. Visitors can stay to see more art until the end of the season.
