Grand Blanc Schools Dive Into Charity
On February 10, about one hundred people gathered at Don Batchelor Field to jump into cold water and raise money for Special Olympics Michigan.
The event, called the Polar Plunge, is a popular fundraiser that encourages everyone to help students with special needs. Teachers and kids from the high school, middle school, and elementary school joined together.
The chilly plunge was a chance for classmates to bond and support one another.
“Seeing everyone participate shows how strong our community is,” said a special‑education teacher who coordinates the program.
The fundraiser was a success: it brought in roughly $24,000 for Special Olympics Michigan. The money will help the organization provide training and competition opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
A senior student who attends special education said the plunge was both exciting and a bit scary, but he enjoyed the warmth of new clothes afterward. He also praised the event for giving his peers a chance to experience sports and teamwork like everyone else.
The school district thanked the students, teachers, principals, and community members for their support. Together they proved that even a cold dip can create positive change.
