In the ever-changing world, it is revealed that climate change impacts grasshoppers. . Some rise in size while others shrink down. And a primary factor is the timing - or season. In mountain ranges, the size differences among these insects seemed to depend on the time of year and their elevation. So  research has found that grasshoppers south of high peaks between about 1, 768 and 3, 901 meters above sea level have had some noticeable size changes since about 1960.  The timing of their emergence is key. Early emergers which overwinter first at leaves growth - seem to be larger. The later species, however, are getting smaller. All of this is driven by yearly temperature differences. Spring's warm weather conditions might help early risers speed things up, resulting in larger insect sizes or earlier maturity.  The opposite could happen to insects appearing in the later seasons. The theory is that their high energy consumption or higher exposure to stress could cause them to shrink. But remember, these insects still manage to grow bigger when the conditions favor them.

Seasonality is important. Movements in temperature can impact the period where insects grow and develop. At  , the earth is warming due to climate change. This means that for some species, the effects are being noticed more in summer. Grasshopper development clearly demonstrates that climate change has more than one potential effect on body sizes. These changes might vary subtly between elevations. What is important to take note of is that the differences in shrinkage and growth are all affected by exposure  and sensitivity to temperature. Temperature changes affect growth during development, impacting whether the insects are bigger or smaller. And ultimately the timing of the insect or when it emerges is key.
