Grok's Troubles: A Global AI Chatbot Under Fire
The Philippines is taking steps to restrict access to Elon Musk's AI chatbot, Grok.
This move comes after worries about its potential to create inappropriate images, especially those that might endanger children. Henry Aguda, the secretary of information and communications technology, confirmed this during a recent press conference.
Collaboration Between Agencies
The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) are working together to make this happen. Aguda mentioned that Grok is not as popular in the Philippines as other AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude. Still, he assured that the issue would be resolved soon.
Global Concerns
This isn't just a problem in the Philippines. Other countries are also taking action against Grok.
- Indonesia has already temporarily blocked it due to concerns about AI-generated adult content.
- Malaysia is even considering legal action against X, the social media platform where Grok is used.
Backlash and Safeguards
Grok's ability to generate explicit content has sparked a global backlash. Governments and regulators worldwide are demanding better safeguards. However, X has not yet responded to the Philippines' plans to block Grok.
