Growing Greens Under Lights: How Red and Blue Make a Difference
Sunday, January 26, 2025
The tiny power plants inside the leaves, called chlorophyll, didn't work as well under red light, except in pak choi. But blue light helped them shine better! Also, the good stuff we eat in veggies, like soluble solids and antioxidants, were less or more depending on the light color. Too much blue light reduced these benefits. But what was interesting was that nitrate levels were lowest under a special blue light.
The restaurant staff loved having a plant factory in their workspace. They thought it was a cool addition. In the end, it showed that a mix of red and blue light was best for growing these baby-leaf vegetables, making them taste and look good.
