Gucci's Modern Glamour: A Night of Art, Fashion, and Music

Last night's LACMA Art+Film Gala, sponsored by Gucci, raised a record $6. 4 million. Unlike the Academy Museum Gala last month, which favored Old Hollywood style, LACMA encouraged a more modern take on glamour. Bright green outfits (think Kaia Gerber and Gabriella Kaefa-Johnson) and white suits for men were popular choices. Gucci's creative director, Sabato De Sarno, dressed about half of the notable attendees, including Kim Kardashian, Cara Delevingne, and both honorees of the night. The first honoree was sculptor Simone Leigh, whose exhibition is currently at LACMA. Philanthropist Bryan Stevenson introduced her, sharing how her 2022 Biennale exhibition in Venice caught his attention. Leigh joked that this moment reminded her of when her daughter's friends thought she was cool.

The second honoree was filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, introduced by his longtime collaborator, Anna Wintour. Wintour praised Luhrmann's creativity and perfectionism, recalling a time when he was still editing a film as they drove to its premiere. Luhrmann dedicated the honor to his wife, Catherine Martin, whom he met when they were both young, talking about art for hours. He emphasized that all creative fields intersect, aiming to connect with people. Musically, Charli XCX was set to perform solo, but her collaborator Troye Sivan joined her on stage for a likely final performance of "Talk talk" together. Despite the chilly LA weather, the atmosphere was still electric.
