Handheld Gaming Gets a New Player: Lenovo's Legion Go S with SteamOS

Ever thought about gaming on the go without the hassle of Windows? Lenovo just unveiled the Legion Go S at CES 2025, a handheld device that comes with SteamOS, Valve's own operating system made for gaming. This isn't your average gaming device; it's got a traditional form-factor with an 8-inch display and controllers on both sides. What's really cool is that you can choose between two AMD chips: the budget-friendly Ryzen Z2 Go or the premium Ryzen Z1 Extreme. Plus, you get to decide if you want SteamOS or Windows 11. SteamOS is great for gaming, but Windows might be better if you use Xbox Game Pass or play multiplayer games with anti-cheat software. The Z2 Go version will cost $599 with Windows or $499 with SteamOS, while the Z1 Extreme will set you back $729.

The cheaper model comes with 16GB of RAM, and the pricier one has 32GB. The 8-inch display supports up to 1920×1200 resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has a 55Wh battery, USB 4 ports, and a microSD slot. Weighing in at 730g, it's light enough to carry around. Lenovo is also updating the original Legion Go, with a prototype of the Legion Go 2 shown at CES. So, while it might seem like a Steam Deck competitor, Valve and Lenovo are working together to make SteamOS even better. They're more interested in growing the Steam ecosystem than becoming the next big console maker.
