Kamala Harris' presidential campaign has been making strides in securing the support of organized labor, despite a major union's decision not to endorse her. The influential Teamsters union declined to issue an endorsement, citing a lack of commitment to workers' interests. However, Harris has won the backing of nearly every other major labor union in the country, including the Service Employees International Union, the Culinary Workers Union, and the AFL-CIO.
Harris' campaign is focusing on energizing women and people of color in the Sun Belt, particularly in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina. Thousands of union members are expected to deploy to key swing states to volunteer on Harris' behalf. Labor leaders predict that this support will be a game-changer in the rapidly diversifying Sun Belt.
The current level of political discourse is unsustainable, and it's imperative that we find a way to rise above it. The country can't afford to break, and it's up to us to make a change.
