Healing Hooves, Helping Hands
Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, USAMonday, September 23, 2024
Seeliger emphasized the benefits of laying down on a horse, which can calm a person's nervous system. "Events like this can help people connect and find resources within their community," attendee Renee noted. She highlighted the importance of prioritizing mental wellness, especially post-pandemic, as many people struggle with anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.
As Seeliger reflected on the school shooting's aftermath, she acknowledged that the community still needed to heal. "Whatever is lingering inside us from that event is shared amongst other community members, and that's crucial," she said, her voice cracking. "It's humbling to see the participants feeling joy, and it brings tears to my eyes."
The festival, planned entirely by volunteers, is a testament to the community's commitment to mental health. In its first year, the event was held at a smaller stable, but due to capacity constraints, Tyrol Basin generously agreed to host it. The event will return in 2025, and mental health resources can be accessed online.
