Healing on the Go: How Bioactive Glass Powder Aids Wounds
ChinaSaturday, November 23, 2024
Initially, it helped cells grow and move faster, even triggering the release of important proteins like alpha-SMA and collagen I. Later, it guided fibroblast cells to differentiate properly, which is crucial for reducing scarring. When tested on actual wounds, this gel outperformed regular bioactive glass powder. Though it’s similar to a commercial product called Dermlin paste, it solved issues like local irritation due to high pH and poor adhesion.
This study shows how bioactive glass gels can specifically control cell behavior, offering a promising step towards better wound treatments.
