Health Hush-Hush: What's Up with Trump and Biden's Health Transparency?
USAWednesday, May 28, 2025
Another big name in politics is also facing health transparency questions. Former President Joe Biden, now 82, recently revealed he has aggressive prostate cancer. 61% of those surveyed think Biden hasn't been open about his health. 31% believe he has been transparent. Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race after a debate performance that raised even more concerns about his health and mental sharpness. In February 2024, his doctor said he was "fit to serve" after a check-up at Walter Reed. But after the debate, many started to think that Biden's team might not have been completely honest about his health.
The survey showed that 57% of people think Democrats might have hidden information about Biden's health while he was in office. 36% of Democrats and 65% of all respondents think Biden's health problems were downplayed to mislead the public. 74% of all respondents and 58% of Democrats don't think Biden has the mental sharpness to be president again.
Doctors have also weighed in on Biden's health. Dr. Howard Forman from Yale was surprised that Biden's cancer wasn't caught earlier. He thought someone with Biden's access to healthcare should have caught it sooner. But Dr. Mark Litwin from UCLA said aggressive prostate cancers can grow quickly and might not show up on tests until they've already spread.
Trump himself has criticized Biden's health transparency. He suggested that Biden's doctors might have withheld important information. He called the situation "dangerous for our country. " Biden's office has said that while his cancer is aggressive, it's also hormone-sensitive, which means it can be managed effectively. They're currently looking at treatment options with his doctors.
