Helping Hands: How UVA Health Spreads Holiday Cheer
UVA Health is making a significant impact this holiday season by donating $37,500 to four nonprofits in Charlottesville, Culpeper, and Northern Virginia. This generous gesture is in honor of their over 18,000 employees.
Recipients of the Donation
The funds will be distributed among the following organizations:
- All Blessings Flow
Provides free medical equipment and supplies to individuals with disabilities and serious health conditions.
- Culpeper Food Closet
Supports the community by offering food and personal-care items to those in need.
- Fauquier FISH
Assists families with food, school supplies, and other essentials.
- Action in Community Through Service (ACTS)
- Addresses issues related to hunger, housing, and domestic violence.
A Tradition of Giving
This is not the first time UVA Health has shown its commitment to community support. Last year, they donated $7,500 to five different nonprofits, demonstrating their ongoing dedication to making a difference.
Challenges Faced
Despite their philanthropic efforts, UVA Health has had a challenging year. Some professors and healthcare workers called for the resignation of two leaders, citing a culture of fear and retaliation. An independent review was conducted, leading to the resignation of one leader and the departure of the other to a new position.
Focus on the Positive
Amidst these challenges, UVA Health remains focused on the positive. They are expressing appreciation for their employees and extending a helping hand to those who need it most.
