Hori's New Steam Controller: A Traditional Design with Modern Twists

If you're looking for a new controller for your PC games, Hori has just the thing. Their Wireless Horipad for Steam is now up for preorder on Amazon, just in time for the holidays. But don't expect it to be like the old Steam controller from Valve. That one had unique features like dual trackpads instead of thumbsticks. Hori's controller goes back to basics with a traditional design. It's got all the buttons you'd expect, like face buttons, shoulder bumpers, triggers, a D-pad, and two thumbsticks that are offset, similar to those on Xbox and Nintendo Switch Pro controllers. But here's where it gets interesting. Unlike your average third-party controller, this one has some extra features. For example, it includes the Steam Deck's Options and Quick Access Menu. This lets you easily call up and navigate Steam's Big Picture Mode menus. Pretty handy, right?

The controller also has four remappable buttons—two on the front and two back paddles. Plus, it's got trigger locks with two stop points, gyro controls, and even a turbo mode. Unfortunately, it doesn't have rumble functionality, and the thumbsticks don't have those fancy anti-drift Hall Effect sensors that are becoming popular. But they do have touch sensitivity, just like the ones on a Steam Deck.
