Dave Ward began his journey in Dallas, born in 1939. He grew up in Huntsville and started his career in radio at KGKB in Tyler during college. His move to Houston in 1962 marked the beginning of his long association with the city.

- 1966: Moved to Channel 13, becoming the station's first on-the-street news reporter and photographer.
- January 1968: Became the anchor of Eyewitness News at 6 and 10 p. m.
