How Health Workers in Southern Israel Cope After the 2023 Attack

In October 2023, a significant terrorist attack shook southern Israel. This event left many people severely traumatized, and health care workers were on the front lines helping those who were evacuated. A study looked into how these health care workers were coping with the emotional strain. Over a period of time, researchers surveyed 129 health care professionals from various clinics, including those that only served evacuees. They found that factors like self-confidence, religion, and work experience played a big role in how well these workers were handling the situation.

For instance, women and those who were more religious tended to feel better about their ability to handle stress. However, factors like being more exposed to traumatized patients could also take a toll on their emotional well-being. This study aims to fill a gap in understanding how health care workers deal with such stressful situations and guide interventions to make their jobs easier and patient care better.
