How Neonicotinoid Pesticides Affect Honeybee Sensors

They found out that certain kinds of neonicotinoids, called cis-oxygen bridge ones, connect strongly to a honeybee protein called AmelCSP3. This protein helps bees sense their environment. The scientists used special tools like surface plasmon resonance and molecular modeling to understand how the pesticides attach to the protein.

They discovered that these pesticides grab onto the protein through forces called hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions. What's interesting is that pesticides with a specific structure, called cis-structure, behave differently when it comes to temperature. This means that designing safer pesticides for bees could be possible in the future. Understanding how these pesticides interact with bee proteins is important for keeping bees safe and healthy.
