How Temperature Changes Affect Root Canal Sealer Bond Strength

Root canal treatments involve using irrigation solutions to clean the root canals. A study looked into how different temperatures of these solutions affect the bond strength of sealers used to fill the canals. The researchers tested various solutions like sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA) at different temperatures: 22°C and 37°C. Additionally, they used glycolic acid (GA) and Dual Rinse® HEDP (Etidronate) mixture at these temperatures.

After preparing the root canals with these solutions, the researchers tested the bond strength of the bioceramic-based sealers in different regions of the canals. They found that warmer irrigation solutions improved the bond strength of the sealers. The type of solution also played a role, with EDTA showing better results compared to Dual Rinse® HEDP. Interestingly, the bond strength was weaker in the apical region than in the middle region. It's intriguing how small changes in temperature can make a big difference in the effectiveness of root canal treatments. This study highlights the importance of considering temperature when choosing irrigation solutions.
