How to Defend Taiwan's Crabs: The Borax Battle
TaiwanMonday, February 10, 2025
Now, to the question: What about the rest of the ants? Researchers have found that the ants are picky. They love the tiny water jelly balls while they will leave the large ones. So maybe there will be less of an impact on non-target species. That is something to keep in mind.
But before you get too excited, the battle isn't over.
These water jelly baits can be effective, but that is if they work well in the wild. Scientists need to test these on the big ants colonies to see if they will work on these bigger invasions.
These bugs are not something new and they are in a big way in beautiful places like forests and beaches. And there are issues on how it is working out in these areas. As of now, the ants are the ones weaponising and taking the areas for themselves.
With further testing, experts will be able to develop a foolproof plan to defend the land crab from the longlegged ant from making the land their own. And with this, they will cause another catastrophe.
