How Ukraine is using smart ideas to fight back against Russia

UkraineSaturday, June 13, 2026
When Russia attacked in 2022, most experts thought Ukraine had no real chance. The numbers were against them – Russia had way more people, weapons, and money. Many believed the country would fall quickly. But after two years of brutal fighting, something unexpected happened. Ukraine didn’t just survive – it started winning back territory, even when outside help from the U. S. dropped sharply. How did they pull this off? Part of the answer lies in how Ukrainian civilians stepped up. Some joined the army or volunteered in defense groups. Others used their everyday skills to help the war effort, like gathering information, raising funds, or fixing damaged power lines. But the real game-changer came from Ukraine’s growing homemade defense industry. Scientists, engineers, and even video game designers switched from their regular jobs to building new weapons. Their most famous creation? Cheap but effective drones.
These drones come in all sizes and do different jobs. Some spy on enemy movements. Others attack supply trucks or military bases deep inside Russia. Some even have AI that can shoot down other drones. Because these drones are so affordable, Ukraine can make thousands every day. Over 500 companies now produce them, many started just after the war began. Even small countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia want Ukraine’s tech to protect themselves from similar threats. Still, the fight isn’t over. Russia keeps attacking with its own drones and missiles, destroying cities and killing people. A peace deal isn’t in sight yet. But Ukraine’s progress shows that size doesn’t always decide who wins a war. Sometimes, cleverness and determination matter more. That’s a lesson the whole world is watching closely.
