They found that people tend to trust speakers more when they use language that aligns with their political views. For example, Democrats may trust someone more if they talk about "expanding voting rights, " while Republicans might trust someone more if they talk about "reducing election security. " However, when these same phrases are heard by the opposing political group, they can lead to mistrust and negative evaluations. This polarizing effect can also strengthen beliefs and increase disagreements between different political groups.

Partisan language can be a double-edged sword. It might boost your credibility among your political allies, but it can also damage trust and deepen divides with political opponents.
