Hunting for Life on Europa: NASA's Bold New Mission
JupiterMonday, September 23, 2024
The Europa Clipper spacecraft is equipped with nine advanced instruments that will study the moon's surface and interior. These instruments will help scientists understand the moon's composition, its geological history, and whether it's habitable. The spacecraft will also use cameras and radar to map Europa's surface in greater detail than ever before.
The journey to Europa won't be easy. The spacecraft will have to travel more than 1.5 billion kilometers to reach its destination. However, NASA engineers have designed the spacecraft to use the gravity of nearby planets to increase its speed and shorten the journey.
