Illegal Immigrant Sentenced for Michigan Murder

In a Michigan courtroom, a Mexican man who entered the U. S. illegally was given a 39-year prison sentence for murdering his girlfriend. This crime became a hot topic in the 2020 U. S. presidential race due to the man’s immigration status. The man, Brandon Ortiz Vite, pleaded guilty to the charges. His girlfriend, Ruby Garcia, was shot and left on the side of a highway in Grand Rapids after an argument about their relationship.

Ortiz Vite admitted to the crime, although he claimed he was under the influence of drugs at the time. The case sparked political debates, with former President Donald Trump criticizing the current administration for not preventing Ortiz Vite's return to the U. S. after his deportation. Judge Mark Trusock described Ortiz Vite as a "cold-blooded murderer" and a danger to society.
