Indiana's High School Diploma Makeover: Weigh In by Nov. 8!
Indiana, USASaturday, October 12, 2024
The new draft, supported by several universities, introduces a single base diploma that requires 42 credits, up from the previous 40. It will start with the Class of 2029. Students can also earn "readiness seals" that align with their career pathways. These seals offer extra credits and can be earned through job certifications or work-based learning hours.
There are various seals, including honors and honors plus seals, depending on whether students plan to go to college, get a job, or enlist in the military. The honors plus seal requires an associate's degree and 100 hours of work-based learning. The employment honors seal needs technical courses and 100 hours of work-based training.
Any student who earns a seal will meet the graduation requirements for a diploma. The State Board of Education must adopt the new diploma rule by December 31. Interested individuals can submit their feedback through an online survey or attend the public hearing.
